چکیده

Given a spatial network, a spatial neighbourhood, a collection of activities, a constant buffer area and a number of clusters to identify (k), the problem of spatial activity summarization using constant area buffers is to choose the user defined k constant area buffers which maximizes the number of activities covered. Spatial activity summarization is an important societal problem and has been used by authorities to curb crime [16, 7, 13] and respond to natural disasters [18, 5, 1]. Oliver et al. [18] proved, in specific cases, network based summarization is a better approach than geometry based ones whereas the existence of geometry based approaches for the last 2 decades [10] proves their acceptance with the environmental criminologists and the authorities [7]. This paper presents an alternative way of summarizing spatial activities which helps the user summarize activities using k different buffers. The problem is of choosing the k best buffers out the available β buffers which provides us with a β choose k ( β k ) ways of accomplishing it. We use a greedy approach to maximize the number of activities covered in the k buffers. First principle examples show that this approach’s performance is comparable to the the above-mentioned approaches and in most instances presented in the examples it outperforms both.

Determining the Spatial Location of Lookout Towers in Rapid Forest Fire Detection Using Geographic Information System (GIS)

Degradation of forests by fire has several environmental and socio-economic impacts and causes a disruption in the balance of ecosystems. Thus, rapid identification of fire using fires detection towers is necessary to reduce destructive effects in forests. Therefore, the purpose of this study is the identification of best and optimal locations to install fire detection towers using Digital Elev...

Tissue harmonic synthetic aperture ultrasound imaging.

Synthetic aperture sequential beamforming (SASB) and tissue harmonic imaging (THI) are combined to improve the image quality of medical ultrasound imaging. The technique is evaluated in a comparative study against dynamic receive focusing (DRF). The objective is to investigate if SASB combined with THI improves the image quality compared to DRF-THI. The major benefit of SASB is a reduced bandwi...

Spatial Association of Groundwater Resources and Quaternary Faults Using Weight of Evidence Method (WOE) Case Study of Sirjan Plain

Aims & Backgrounds: The faults and tectonic structures have a major impact on groundwater resources and they play more important role in these factors, which by creating a displacement in the sequence of layers, lead to creation of aquifers. Determination of the relationship between faults and groundwater resources can help to identify new water resources. The aim of this study is to investigate...

Sequential Beamforming Synthetic Aperture Imaging

Synthetic aperture sequential beamforming (SASB) is a novel technique which allows to implement synthetic aperture beamforming on a system with a restricted complexity, and without storing RF-data. The objective is to improve lateral resolution and obtain a more depth independent resolution compared to conventional ultrasound imaging. SASB is a two-stage procedure using two separate beamformers...

Statistically Significant Spatial Network Activity Summarization Project Proposal

The problem is really important due to its important societal application [3, 4]. The KMR problem has already been proven useful in situations like disaster response, crime analysis and other disastrous events [1]. Spatial Network Activity Summarization has only considered the problem of finding shortest paths. KMR also considers shortest path along with maximum coverage by using Node pruning t...
